When we started working alongside our studies, we noticed something. We’d learned a lot of theory, but the practical, up-to-date skills our jobs actually needed weren’t there. The options? Courses costing thousands of euros, or hours of disconnected YouTube videos. Picking up the right practical skills quickly just wasn’t possible.
There had to be a better way. So we started building a platform where you can easily learn new skills from each other. A place where learning fun and useful new skills sits at the centre — and where sharing them does too.
We knew a platform like Soofos could help a lot of people. A place to share your own knowledge and skills, and just as importantly, a place to learn new things. Where you can keep growing. For yourself, for your work, for your future.

From attic room to sandy beach
2015 goes down in the history books as ‘the year Soofos started’. That year, study friends Joris & Anton decided it was time to build a platform that finally opened up practical knowledge.
After quotes came in at hundreds of thousands of euros for a custom-built platform, they decided to do it themselves. Take the leap, skip outside funding, and just try. In the evening hours — literally on the fourth-floor attic of a flat in Amsterdam — the platform took shape.
After two years working on Soofos full-time with a team of around four, the guys started craving adventure again. Amsterdam South and North had got too small. Dutch winters were starting to feel really cold.
So off we went. The Fiat Panda 100hp got packed with screens, suitcases and the things we thought we still needed. Somehow there was just enough room left for Rick and Joris to fit their ridiculously long legs in too.
Three months in, the verdict was clear: this felt right. We wanted more of it — the freedom to be wherever we wanted to be. So it was time to rebuild the company as a remote one, where the team could work effectively on growing Soofos without being tied to a location.
It worked. And here we are. Every day, our developers improve the platform. Our support team works to help learners as best they can, and our ‘success manager’ is on hand to give instructors tips for getting the most out of their courses. At least two months a year, we get together in person to push things further, learn from each other, and find new inspiration.
That’s translated into an open culture, where personal growth matters a lot. Where you grow as a person, and where there’s enough room to keep developing yourself.
We believe you don’t need to work more than 32 hours a week — you need time for your own stuff. And within those four days, we still make space for half a day on your own development. On things you find fun or important.
We’ve found the freedom we were after — the room to keep chasing adventure without our work taking a hit. We’re flexible, free, and focused on real learning from each other.
On to a great future, doing what matters to us. Building Soofos into the company that inspires other people. Building the platform where everyone keeps learning from each other.
